At the end of the 20th century, after the collapse of Soviet Union, Azerbaijan and Central Asia countries gained their independence and become the centre of attention of Turkey. Turkey was the first country, which had recognised the independent state of Azerbaijan and started to build strong relations with this brother country, which it already had language, ethnic, cultural and religious links. In particular, Turkeys 8th President Turgut Ozal contributed significantly to establish intensive cooperation and relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan Republic, since the early days of its independence. Turgut Ozal supported the resolution for the conflict that started as a result of the occupation of the Azerbaijan's Nagorno-Karabakh area by Armenia and raised the issue in the international communities.
The purpose of this study is to examine Turkeys support for the resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, during the early days of independent Azerbaijan was forced to war by Armenia. The president Turgut Ozal, who had a dream of creating United World of Turks, and his special approach towards Azerbaijan and his struggle in the international arena during the period of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, will be examined in this study.
