In Turkish cinema, the family has been represented as a holy institution just as the society is in the values of judges. The family is a sheltered area against all kinds of crime and problem in the life outside the home and a place where individuals find peace. However, it is observed that the family representation started to be shaken from the beginning with cinema films broadcast from the beginning of 2000's. The family is now reflected in the form of an institution that has become a legitimate place for many traumeners, generations of clashes and dirty secrets to hide, to decipher privacy, rather than a sheltered area. It seems possible to mention the existence of paradoxicity in the family institution in films made in Yeşilçam (old Turkish cinema) in the pre-1980 and post-2000 period, where traditional and modern family types are seen. Especially, it is possible to see the traces of the traditional family type reflection of the family institution in the production of this period in the Turkish Cinema because the family establishment is reflected more positively in the period before 1980. In 1980 films; Loneliness, financial impossibilities, rich girl-poor boys. Despite all the impossibilities, the concept of family was blessed, and despite all the stress on the inheritance of the family business, there has been an attempt to represent the importance of being a family, living together and struggling with difficulties. This study was carried out in order to investigate how the family institution is reflected in the daily life in Turkey Cinema. In this context, the films named ‘Aile Şerefi (Family Honor)’ and ‘Bizim Aile (Our Family)’ from pre-1980 period and ‘Babam ve Oğlum (Dad and Son)’ and ‘Dedemin İnsanları (Grandpa’s People)’ for post-2000 period were chosen for the representation. In this context, the position, sanctity, function or dysfunction of the family institution has been tried to be analyzed by means of content analysis method in the light of field researches that are focused on ‘family’ in Turkey. As a result of the scientific evaluations made, findings with supporting quality were found and they attribute the assumptions that were put forward at the beginning of the research.
