Abstract


EXAMINIG THE SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING READINESS LEVEL OF UNIVERSITY STUDNETS

The aim of this study is to examine self-directed learning readiness level of university students in terms of various variables.The universe of the study consists of the first and fourth grade students who study at different undergraduate programs of various faculties of Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University during the 2016-2017 academic year.The sample group of the study is composed of 570 students selected from the specified universe.A personal information form prepared by the researchers to collect the demographic characteristics of the participants and a "Self-Directed Learning Readiness Scale" (ÖYÖÖÖ) developed by Fisher et al. (2001) and adapted to Turkish language by Şahin and Erden (2009) were used to answer the research problems.In the analysis of the data, descriptive analysis techniques such as arithmetic mean, standard deviation; t-test to compare two variables, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) to compare three or more variables were used. As a result of the research, it was determined that the self-directed learning readiness level of university students was at good ( = 3.88) level. When self-directed readiness level of students was examined in terms of gender, significant differences were found in favor of female students. When it was examined in terms of grade level, it was seen that 4th grade students had a higher level of self-directed learning readiness level than the first grade students.Findings showed that students' self-directed learning readiness level differed significantly in terms of faculty variable. In addition, self-directed learning readiness level scores of the students who attend the activities organized at universities such as conferences, panels, symposiums was found to be higher that the students who do not attend these activities while the scores of the students who sometimes attend these activities was higher than the students who never attend these activities.
